Blah

I had a great time doing a camera gig at Katsucon 08 in DC last weekend. I want to tell you more about that, but because I don't feel like uploading the pics just right now, I'll wait until later this weekend.

Last weekend was oright, but this week was just blah. Between the flu--which I swear I've had since the beginning of February--and these winter storms we've been having, I didn't have the hottest, most productive week. Went to school. Worked a couple of days. That was it.

I did watch George Romero's Diary Of The Dead last Monday, and I'll be posting that review here soon. For the time being, you may check it at Horror-101.com.

I better get busy this weekend. Winter weather can easily throw me in a bad mood, and I don't want to let seasonal depression waste my time this winter.

I've rented '3:10 To Yuma' and 'Michael Clayton' to watch. Going to go and watch one of them now. Hope they're good movies.

Saturday Morning Cartoons (Mazinger Z!!!)

Recently, we discussed the current state of Saturday Morning cartoons at OctopusOverlords.com. I posted there that ever since I stopped having digital cable, I've noticed just how suckstastic Saturday Morning children's programming has become. I grew in the 80s in Puerto Rico, when we had awesome cartoons like Robotech, Transformers, He-Man, ThunderCats, Capt Raymar, Secret Agent Cobra and many others.

In my opinion, Saturday Morning went to crap when the monstrosity of the 'Children's Sitcom' was invented in the 90s, and it's name was 'Saved By The Bell' . That slowly started the beginning of the end to great Saturday Morning programming. That, and a bunch of whiney child psychologists who insisted that action cartoons were oh-so-bad for children. Bullshit. Pardon my french.

Take a ride down the dial of the big three networks on Saturday mornings. You'll find animated shows that are written specifically for babies and no one older--NBC's Qubo block. The CBS schedule is replete with moronic 'children's sitcoms'. The only network that represents a bit (and badly) is Fox with some cheap-ass, bad anime.

Yeah, this is a manchild bitching and moaning about how sucky Saturday Morning programming. So be it. I wish kids nowadays could have the fun we had back then: Looney Tunes, classic Tom And Jerry, and even old school anime like Tranzer Z.

Skulking around Youtube, I actually found the opening to Tranzer Z (Mazinger Z everywhere else around the world), and man, does this take me back! Just check out the awesome themesong. Crank this up! This is dedicated to all children of the 80s!

*sniff*sniff*

I've been at home and down with the flu for the past couple of days. I hate being sick because it derails my creativity. It also doesn't help that I only have local TV cable and midday network programming truly sucks the big one. How many 'Judge' shows are they going to clog the airwaves with? I didn't know there was such a huge market for 'Judge' shows. They're everywhere!

I should be back up and running by tommorrow morning. Damn this flu season. I better not hit the Nyquil again tonight. I slept for over 13 hours last night when I had some Nyquil.

POTUS!

POTUS is the abbreviation for President Of The United States. You will often see this term in many online political threads. I've noticed that folks who really like to use this term are typically Conservatives, who apparently like the formal and powerful connotation of the terminology. Such funny-duddies.

Personally, I think POTUS sounds dirty. Seriously, think about it. It cracks me up each and everytime I see someone online using the term. POTUS sounds too much like Coitus, and is in the same neighborhood as Penis. Hell, it's even very close to the word Pussy.

POTUS!

Next time you see Bush on TV, yell it out loud at the TV--Hey, there's Potus!

'I shot the sheriff... but I didn't shoot no potus!'

Imagine what would happen if the President were to be announced by someone in this way:

'Ladies and Gentleman.... The Potus!'

(Several conservative men and women faint in the room. 'OMG, the vulgarity!' Plop!)

I'm going to be yelling out Potus randomly from now on.

POTUS!

(One last thing I just thought: POTUS sounds a lot like 'Putas', which is spanish for 'bitches')

Small Pleasures (SuperBowl)

Some random things I enjoyed in the past few days:

--Watching that SuperBowl, and seeing the underdog Giants trump the 'perfect' Patriots. In the last 2:35 minutes of that game, you could see the pure essence of American Football--grit, heart, effort, talent, and victory. Eli Manning's impossible escape from a sack and his pass to Tyree are the stuff of football legend. Then, Manning's gorgeous pass to Plaxico brings forth the biggest upset in NFL history. With 35 seconds on the clock, golden boy Tom Brady gets sacked like a rag doll by the Giants defense line. Football doesn't get any better than this.

--Eating a a rack of BBQ ribs at Old Glory in Georgetown, DC while watching the game, complete with a cold glass of Bass Ale.

--Having dinner with my mother last week at Carabba's, just weeks after her emergency surgery. Not a small pleasure. A big one actually. I like to break my own rules.

--Watching a gorgeous girl dressed in a fetching green night dress dance her heart out at the Latin Palace last Saturday night.

--Starting a new Biology college class and being the only man in a room with 12 females.

--Having a restful, full night's sleep in a cozy, warm bed after a very busy day like today.

Goodnight.
