Great Weekend
My birthday get-together at Max's on Friday was a blast. It made me very happy to see each and everyone who came on down. But I was very surprised to see a couple of folks in particular: Doug Mowbray came on down! He's such a homebody and I hardly get to see him these days. But he stopped by. Not only that, but he got the coolest gift--the recently released DVD of Luis Bunuel's 'The Milky Way', which I had no idea had been released by Criterion Collection. Doug also got me to do an ill-advised 'carbomb' shot--which I admit I couldn't finish the whole way thru. Oh well, we did it to try to impress a couple of ladies. Fools do what they gotta do!
It was also great to see Stephanie. The girl has been so busy we hardly know her, but she stopped by and made my day. Nice meeting her new man, too. Much love to everyone who came on down-- Shane, David, Celia, Thom and Caroline, Diana and Ishmael, Jon, Wes and Cheryl.
The drinking on Friday tapped me the hell out, because I was just dragging my ass on Saturday. I did manage to be productive later on Saturday when I headed out to talk to a couple of business about sponsoring the Camm Slamm 2007. But then I hit the Sound Garden, and by the time I got back home I just went to bed by 9:30pm; unusual for me on a Saturday night.
Things picked up on Sunday when I spent the day helping Mark Colegrove shoot on his upcoming film 'Isle Of The Damned'. A lot of work was done shooting at those Liberty Reservoir hills, including a cannibal ass-kicking scene and a principal character disembowelment (Go Shane with the effects!). Somehow, after all that, I managed to muster some energy and check my buddy Dave Cipriani's End Of Summer intimate concert at a rustic farmhouse up in Butler MD. Dave was in great form. He sounded awesome along with his new lineup for Satabdhi Express. He told me they will be having a new CD out in the fall. I sincerely hope Dave keeps doing his thing, because he's truly a craftsman and an emerging master musician. Dave Cipriani should be making it big soon.
I was also very comforting to see my buddy, Jonathan.. and even the better that he was there with a new woman. He's not much of a net user, so I can say that his ex-girlfriend was just very bad for him. Glad to see he finally woke up and moved on.
It's Monday night, and soon I'll be picking the winners of the Horror-101 'Instant Horror Fan' Contest. I also finally picked up the new Wilco, Sky Blue Sky. Listening to it for the first time now. It sounds sublime.
